Born To Go Fishing, the product of a conversation with a poet while on vacation off the coast of Newfoundland, featuring Roy Dwyer’s poem recorded in his tool shed.
CDMX 1 & 2, are contrasting explorations of color, texture and street photography while shooting a fashion film in Mexico City and are set to the Juana Molina track, “Ando” (#1) and Joakim Skogsberg’s “Jola Fren Ingbo” (#2.)
Two Nights In Cornwall, captured at a summer literary festival on the heels of shooting a documentary project in London, featuring versions of the traditional Cornish tune “Sweet Nightingale” by Stewart Cameron, Hannover Harmonies and Ged Fox and “Manazashi No Saki” by Hisato Higuchi and performances by Bo Ningen and Kim Gordon.
Both I Flooded You and There Is No Self were shot on location scouts for commercial projects in, respectively, the California desert, propped up by Anthony Newley’s 1971 spoken word classic, and a rapeseed field on the outskirts of Arles, based on a conversation between Harry Dean Stanton and David Lynch.
San Celsmo was shot in the Aeolian Islands, stuck in a windstorm while waiting for a wedding and features the music of Luke Faulkner, Electro Band and Andrea Laszlo De Andrea and the voice of Filippo Della Casa.
Nassau Avenue, Fourth of July was shot while hosting a barbecue in Brooklyn and features some Q&A from Richard Rorty’s 1994 talk, “Do We Need Ethical Principles?”
This Is A Recorded Message and Chien Mexicana & The BBC were shot in Mexico on a scout in 2022. For both, the audio was captured off Instagram during single session doomscrolls in 2024, featuring Jonathan Glazer, David Bowie, Ingrid Bergman, and James Burke and an advertisement for an electric music machine called a “Playtronica” for Recorded, and a series of sound bites culled from the BBC Archives feed and the theme song for “Desert Island Discs” for Chien Mexicana.
Ache Transmission was shot in Sedona, Arizona just after dropping my son off at college and features an overlay of Stephen Morris’ drum track from Joy Division’s “Transmission” onto “Don't You Ache” by Ellen Renton & Lord Of The Isles.
Siegfried & Roy was shot near the boarder of Utah and Arizona and features Geno Auriemma, Phil Lesh, Liam Gallagher, Bob Dylan and Laraaji.
Tile Kiln was filmed in Paris while shooting for a woolen knitwear designer with the setup: “Camille Paglia, David Bowie, Marcel Duchamp, David Lynch, Gary Indiana and Han King walk into a Buddhist bar.”
