FROM THE ARCHIVES EDITING WITH TIM GEORGESON

“A casual motorbike journey through Tokyo's nocturnal streets takes an unexpected turn. This hypnotic journey from filmmaker Tim Georgeson follows Tokyo native Satoshi on his vintage motorbike through the city's streets at night, while he reflects on all things nocturnal. At turns mystical and haunting, the film takes us through a portal in time, space, and toward a feeling that we didn't know existed. What emerges is a surreal sojourn into the unknown spaces of our everyday urban spaces—bringing new life to the filmic tradition of the road movie.”

My first collaboration with the photographer and filmmaker Tim Georgeson. Tim was commissioned by the motorcycle cum surfing lifestyle & gear brand Deus Ex Machina to follow around the Japanese designer, and deep moto aficionado, Satoshi. Tim happened into my office one day, having a chat with producer Johnny Fego and, after taking a look at some rushes, I was asked if I’d like to have a go. I went. Q Department steppd in to make the neat sounds and we were happy. Tim and I would go on to make a few films together, in his style, like a short for Nowness about indigenous peoples and an award-winning meditation on the fragility of our environment narrated by Alan Watts.
